STEP 1 Locate your meter pit, generally found towards the front or rear of a property. The box is typically in a direct line with the main. It is housed in the ground. Remove the lid to expose your meter so you may read it to follow along with us in the billing office.
STEP 2 Once you see your meter face you will see a series of numbers flashing. These are meter reading, as seen in the photo below, and the other 2 are longitude and latitude. The one you need to read is the large 8 digits and 2 smaller on the end. Meters are in gallons and the 2 last smaller numbers are 10ths of one gallon. (The picture below shows a reading of 18,351.72 = Eighteen Thousand, Three Hundred and fifty-one, and 72 hundredths of another gallon.)
STEP 3 Keep in mind that you might be checking your meter on a date different from the one used for billing. This could result in a difference in the amount you find, compared with the amount on which your bill is based. However, if the reading is considerably higher than what is on your bill, check for a leak or try to determine the source of large water usage. If the reading is significantly lower than the reading on your bill, please contact us and let us assist you in determining the problem.
